This piece was created whilst I was working at Stanley's Post. The client VCCP had created this 2D artwork and were coming to us to develop in into a stained glass window. I was tasked with experimenting with glass effects. First, a stained glass window effect, which was quite straightforward, however the 2d imagery was too flat to give any sense of something "behind the glass". To do this, we found it was easier to paint a cloud effect by hand with brushes in the black and white, then mask over each pane on top and adding colour. Then, we added the rippling glass effect on top of this. Next step was to turn the black line artwork in to black lead piping. This was created with the help of some plug ins that mimic metal on to vector art. The image was now starting to look 3d, however it was still too clean. One of the final touches was to create new brushes and add 'dirt' in to the corners of the window panes. To finalise, the copy was reintegrated in to the artwork.
